Welcome to Our Home

What’s the first thing you notice when you come up to a house?             Style? Color? Landscape? For me, it’s the front door. That is why I chose our front door to start our very first post.

The front door is what welcomes visitors and opportunity into a house. It can set the tone for everything that follows. First impression, you might say. We love having friends and family over! And we want everyone who enters to feel welcomed and celebrated.

So come on in! Look around and let’s sit and chat for awhile.

This is what our house looks like now. It certainly didn’t look like this when we first moved in. It has gone through many phases and will have many more phases before it’s done. (Although we’re never really done, are we)

I joke around saying,”We’re three years in to a two year project” And that’s ok. Between having full time day jobs, not fully understanding all that goes into home renovation initially and adding things as we go along, it’s taking a bit longer. But, in that process, our projects have evolved into something more beautiful than if we rushed through

Today I’m going to show you those phases with some brief descriptions so we can get acquainted. In future posts I will get more detailed and share how we did each step. Are you ready?Good,  Here goes…

A house with charm and a front porch!  “Yes! I found it!” That’s what I thought when I first saw our house. But wait, two front doors? Apparently, this house had been divided so there was an apartment upstairs.  That means walls will have to go. We can do that, Right? Oh, and it needs a good paint job. I love paint. We can do that, too. And some clean up on the landscape. I think we can do that? Yep! He said we can! So here we go. We’re diving in!

Here we are with a coat of primer (color is coming soon) and those tall trees next to the porch down. House looks like it’s standing taller, doesn’t it.

Now comes some color.

And some more color. I told you I love color. Of course the spring blooms help a lot. We also added porch railings, second floor windows and of course, a couple of rockers. And hey, do you like the shot of red on the dormer vent?

A new roof. We didn’t do that ourselves. We’re not completely crazy.

And Finally, our front door! Did you notice I said that it the singular? Yes, you no longer have to decide which door to knock on. Although that was funny on Halloween. We found our door at a salvage yard on our way to our honeymoon. Fitting, don’t you think? New beginning… threshold… And yes, my wonderful husband carried me over the threshold, without bumping my head.

It was three years from first sight to last photo. Thanks for traveling through time with us. Hope you enjoyed the journey and maybe even got inspired to take on a project of your own.

So, that’s all for now kids! And always remember…

  1. I love the line ”We’re three years in to a two year project” ! It’s a lovely house and from what I’ve seen so far, you are doing quite a job on it. Steve has always been handy so you’ve got a great partner in crime. I used to watch him in wood-shop back in high school (the 70’s) as he’d design and create slalom water skies and then we’d be out in his boat a few weeks later with me operating it and Steve being pulled behind it on one of his creations.
    Fond memories.

Hey Tom, Thanks for checking out our page. And thank you for your help in getting this up and started. I’m much better at painting than I am at computer projects. And yes, I really do have a great partner. Looking forward to getting more pictures up soon.
      Lots of Love, Lisa
