It’s been three years since we bought our house. We’ve have torn down walls, rerouted plumbing and replaced most of the electric wiring. We have replaced windows, doors, roof and some siding. All this and it’s still a work in progress. Geesh! A little more than I originally anticipated. But Hey! It’s giving me lots to blog about.
In past posts, we’ve shown you the transformation of the outside of the house. Would you like to come in and see some of the inside? Yeah? Great! What do you like in your coffee?
Today, I thought I’d take you back to the beginning. Phase 1, I called it. This is when we quickly cleaned, repainted and set the first floor up to live while we gutted the second floor.
This house was unique in that it was originally a single family house that was divided, top from bottom, by a wall built around the staircase. We took advantage of the separation while we did demo on the second floor and lived on the first floor. The demo dust infiltrated a bit, but not too bad. Those walls are down now. Things get a little dustier but I feel the house breathing deeper these days.
Ok, enough of the back story. Are you ready for some Before and Afters? Yes! Here goes…
Front Porch during reno. And then with Paint, Beadboard on the ceiling and, of course, Some rockers and a swing. “We sit on front porches and swing life away…”
Living room as seen in the Real Estate listing. Add a little Paint and decorate. And WahLah!
Dining Room?… Well, it is now… Can you see where we opened the wall?
Kitchen… Even the inspector commented on those beautiful counters. Insert sarcasm here… A little paint on cabinets and walls and a fun tin-look backsplash. That will have to do until we re-do the kitchen. We’re saving that for last…
Screened Porch before. Pulled up indoor/outdoor carpet, paint and decorate. Now our favorite room. Thanks Michelle for my favorite bench and your decorating help.
Master bedroom on first floor. A little painting, crown molding and rearranging and WahLah! Still have to do trim around doors. We’ll get to that eventually…
Master Bathroom. Remodeling still to come but fresh paint makes it feel better. I later painted the vanity. I’ll show you that in a later post.
Eek! I forgot how rough this bathroom originally looked. Still pretty rough but I didn’t want to do too much to this bathroom since it will be eliminated when we remodel the first floor. Thought I’d try a green ceiling. Did I make you look again? Yeah? What do you think? Would you try a color on a ceiling?
You really can change the look of a room with just some color. Most of the work done in these rooms involved not much more than paint. I think that’s why I love paint so much. It makes such a huge impact.
That”s all for now. Until next time… What are you going to change with color?
Thanks for the post! Always enjoy reading them. While remodeling an old doctor’s clinic into a place for people to get their hair cut, nails done, counseling, learn Yoga, etc. My wife and her business partner decided upon a light turquoise type color for all of the walls and it was a great decision. The color made the entire building very relaxing and they received lots of compliments for their selection.
Thanks for the feedback Tom. I love turquois. I’ve never done it on walls, only accent pieces. I’d love to see pictures. I also love the combo of hair, counseling and yoga. Sounds like a great business plan. Would like to hear more on that as well.
Thanks for following along. Lisa
